What Publishers and Agents Actually Want

Spring is finally in the air, which means life is in full bloom (sorry to those of you who have allergies like me) and the sun is out longer. Yay!

With longer days to enjoy, now is the perfect time to work on that novel you’ve been pushing off throughout winter. While you’re at it, I want to share with you one thing–or multiple things, in this case–that literary agents and publishers actually want:

A Book Series.

That’s right–the publishing industry is highly interested in a world that can span more than one book. They don’t want a one-hit-wonder. 

What does this mean for you? If you’re currently working on one novel, consider ways in which you can expand that world into multiple books. Perhaps your characters go on more adventures; perhaps their friends or family take on the adventures–it’s up to you.
