Prepare for Your Novel Writing Sprint this Preptober

It’s the month of October, which means it’s Preptober! This is the month to start preparing for your novel writing sprint in November (Once known as NaNoWriMo). To help you prepare, here are 4 easy steps to write a book, even you have zero experiences:

  1. Decide What to Write About

Before you do any writing, decide what you want to write about first. Decide on the story idea, genre, title, characters, important events, and overall lesson for the reader to take away. This eliminates any guessing or falling off track later on.

  1. Create an Outline

The second part in this process is to create an outline using the information you have decided upon. Then take your list of important events and place them in chronological order, and turn these events into chapters.

  1. Set a Rough Deadline

The third step is to give yourself a rough deadline. This just means deciding when you actually want to start writing the book. In this case, your overall project will start and end in November.

  1. Create a Writing Habit

The last step is the most crucial yet hardest piece to accomplish. If you want to complete your novel in a short period, you must create a writing habit. This habit may be to write for 2-4 hours a day, spread out, or write a certain amount of words each day.

I’ve made a more in-depth video on this process, which you can watch below:
